R.J. Corman Railroad Switching is currently seeking safety minded Locomotive Engineers to join our team in Sasol, LA.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in all phases of the safe daily operation of trains.
- Operates equipment according to company policies, procedures, and practices.
- Operates track switches, couples cars, and works on trains in yard operations.
- Moves and aligns various parts of rail equipment to create or build trains.
- Performs multiple tasks safely, requiring pulling, controlling, and maneuvering onto and off of equipment.
- Works with customers to ensure accurate movement and placement of cars.
- Assumes increasing responsibilities, including the ability to handle Conductor duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, Education and Experience:
- Must be safety minded and have basic reading and math skills.
- Must have the ability to develop teamwork and work with all levels of personnel in achieving train-handling objectives.
- Must be able to give and receive instructions over radio.
- Must have previous Conductor or Engineer experience.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check, drug test, and physical capacity test.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform physically strenuous work.
- Requires constant standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and balancing in a safe manner.
- Requires frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 lbs.
- Able to push and pull with up to 150 lbs. of force.
Environmental Conditions:
- Performs duties primarily in outdoor environments.
- Works in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles, and equipment.
- Frequent exposure to weather elements.
