    Job Description

    Alabama State University, Office of Financial Aid, invites applications to the fill the position of Loan Coordinator. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid, the Loan Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of reviewing, certifying, awarding, originating and reconciling Federal Direct Loans, PLUS, private educational loans and TEACH Grant awards. Ensure that eligibility determinations and disbursements are made timely and accurately in accordance with federal and private regulations and compliance. Candidate will develop and maintain strategies for using technology in support of student loan processes and better service to students and the university.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Plan, develop, and implement student aid activities, procedures and policies.
    • Establish goals and priorities, and make decisions based on program and institutional polices
    • Identify and resolve inconsistencies.
    • Follow program guidelines to determine eligibility and certify student and parent requests for Federal, State, Private Educational loans and TEACH Grant
    • Provide loan counseling and information to borrowers; participate in default management activities.
    • Provide first level of support to Financial Aid staff regarding loan issues; provide information to students regarding general financial aid program requirements and procedures
    • Reconcile all loan programs monthly.
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years previous experience working in Financial Aid or Higher Education. Excellent organizational skills; proficient in MS Office products with ability to learn other software programs; familiarity with PC software, particularly EDConnect, COD, NSLDS, and PeopleSoft Student Information System; detail oriented, and accurate. Strong communication skills: written, oral, active listening and interpersonal skills.
