Job Summary:

It is the responsibility of the Livestock Manager to provide daily oversight of all operations (beef, sheep, swine) at the Livestock Center to ensure the safe operation of the facility for the use of students, staff, and faculty. The Manager is responsible for the health and well being of all animals under their care at all times. The Manager will work together with the Dean of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences, Director of Agricultural Operations and faculty to provide an educational environment consistent with the mission of Delaware Valley University.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the daily workflow of direct reports including the Assistant Livestock Manager and student workers
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new student workers
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and feedback
  • Sets yearly goals and initiatives for direct reports
  • Manages time off requests for staff

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the Livestock Operation
  • Provide exceptional animal care and herd management
  • Maintain timely and accurate budgetary control
  • Meet animal revenue and production goals
  • Maximize the education potential of the livestock center
  • Provide support for class, lab, and professor use of the livestock facility
  • Provide basic maintenance of facilities and equipment
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of all pertinent livestock operations including experience with beef, sheep, and swine.
  • Knowledge and experience with raising beef, sheep, and swine for education and production purposes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues related to feed and ani
  • Knowledge of livestock feed systems

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Animal Science or a related field or equivalent experience managing similar facilities
  • Minimum 2 years of Animal herd management
  • Experience Driving and Hauling Livestock

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
