    Description

    Location: Sag Harbor, New York
    Schedule: Monday–Friday with flexibility as needed
    Compensation: $100,000–$120,000+ annually, commensurate with experience
    Accommodation: Private live-in accommodations provided (if live-in)

    About the Position

    A warm and welcoming family is seeking an experienced, engaging, and compassionate Private Educator to provide individualized educational and developmental support for their bright and lovable seven-year-old son with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

    The ideal candidate is passionate about helping children build confidence, independence, communication, and social-emotional skills through a relationship-based, child-centered approach. The family highly values play-based learning and is seeking someone with experience in, or a strong understanding of, DIR/Floortime principles. (not required!)

    This is a unique opportunity to become an integral part of a family's support team while making a meaningful, long-term impact on a child's growth and development.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide individualized educational instruction tailored to the child's learning style, interests, and developmental goals.
    • Develop engaging, play-based learning experiences that encourage curiosity, communication, confidence, and independence.
    • Support academic enrichment while incorporating functional life skills and executive functioning.
    • Utilize relationship-based teaching strategies, with DIR/Floortime experience strongly preferred.
    • Foster emotional regulation, social development, and problem-solving skills throughout the day.
    • Encourage outdoor exploration, community outings, and age-appropriate social experiences.
    • Work collaboratively with parents and other professionals involved in the child's care to ensure consistency and progress.
    • Maintain regular communication with the family regarding educational goals, observations, and developmental milestones.
    • Travel with the family on occasion as needed.

    Ideal Candidate

    • Experienced Private Educator, Special Educator, Learning Specialist, Child Development Professional, or similarly qualified individual.
    • Previous experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
    • DIR/Floortime experience, certification, or a strong working knowledge is highly preferred.
    • Warm, patient, engaging, and naturally enthusiastic.
    • Passionate about individualized education and relationship-based learning.
    • Creative, flexible, and able to adapt teaching methods to meet the child's evolving needs.
    • Comfortable working within a private household and collaborating closely with the family.

    Schedule & Compensation

    • Monday through Friday schedule with flexibility based on the family's needs.
    • Limited travel throughout the year.
    • Competitive annual salary of $120,000–$130,000+, depending on experience and qualifications.
    • Private live-in accommodations provided for live-in candidates.
