Position Summary
The Utility Driver provides support to transportation, maintenance, and production operations by assisting truck shop technicians and transporting equipment across multiple locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Truck Shop Maintenance Technicians with repairs, maintenance activities, and other support tasks as needed.
- Transport vehicles, equipment, and supplies between company facilities, farms, and external service providers.
- Maintain qualifications and training to operate in Live Haul, Feed Mill, and Hatchery transportation operations, providing coverage as business needs require.
- Operate a variety of company vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Drive assigned vehicles to designated destinations while adhering to all company policies and applicable traffic laws.
- Maintain accurate driver logs and records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain communication with supervisors and dispatch personnel via telephone, radio, or other communication devices to receive instructions and provide status updates.
- Clean and sanitize trailers, compartments, and equipment following unloading activities to prevent contamination and maintain biosecurity standards.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checking tires, lights, brakes, fluid levels, and other safety-related components.
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance and promptly report mechanical issues or safety concerns.
- Comply with all company safety policies, DOT regulations, biosecurity requirements, and operational procedures.
- Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with all required endorsements, commercial insurability, and a current DOT medical certification at all times.
- Crosstrain in additional operational areas and equipment as assigned.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL with required endorsements.
- Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles and various types of equipment.
- Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and teamwork.
- Ability to work flexible hours and respond to operational needs across multiple departments.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
