Litigation / Municipal Attorney - Clinton Township, Michigan

CMDA Law is seeking a highly motivated attorney with 10+ years of experience in litigation, municipal law, and/or insurance defense to join our growing Clinton Township office.

For over 60 years, CMDA has represented public entities, insurers, businesses, employers, families, and individuals in litigation, municipal law, insurance defense, employment, and related practice areas.

The Firm has a particularly strong public-sector and risk-management legacy, including organizing the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority in 1980 and founding the Michigan Community College Risk Management Authority in 1985. CMDA continues to serve both authorities today.

The ideal candidate will have substantial civil litigation experience and the ability to manage cases from inception through resolution, including pleadings, motion practice, discovery, depositions, legal research and writing, negotiations, hearings, and trial preparation.

Skills and Educational Requirements

• JD from an ABA-approved law school, with strong academic credentials.
• Current Michigan Bar admission in good standing.
• Minimum of 10 years of litigation, municipal law, and/or insurance defense experience.
• Ability to manage cases from inception through resolution, including preparing pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal filings; managing discovery; taking and defending depositions; conducting legal research and analysis; negotiating resolutions; and preparing for hearings, facilitation, arbitration, and trial.
• Experience working independently, managing client relationships, and communicating effectively with clients, courts, opposing counsel, municipalities, insurers, and other stakeholders.
• Strong work ethic, sound judgment, high attention to detail, and the ability to take ownership of matters.
• Outstanding analytical, strategic, and creative thinking capabilities.
• Excellent writing, research, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and electronic discovery platforms.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely and professional manner, with a commitment to providing clients with practical, high-quality, and results-driven legal services.
