Litigation Legal Assistant Lead

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Salary: $120,000–$150,000, depending on experience

Our client, an established law firm in Los Angeles, is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant Lead to join its litigation support team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced litigation legal assistant or senior legal secretary who is ready to take the next step into a leadership and mentorship role while remaining actively involved in litigation support.

The position combines hands-on litigation support—including calendaring and docketing, e-filing, document preparation, and trial support—with responsibility for helping oversee daily workflow, training and mentoring team members, and serving as a resource for complex filing and calendaring matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, format, edit, and proofread complex legal documents and forms.
  • Prepare and assist with electronic filings in California state and federal courts.
  • Determine and calendar critical dates from court documents and correspondence.
  • Prepare TOCs, TOAs, exhibits, binders, and other litigation materials.
  • Assist attorneys with conflicts checks and opening new matters.
  • Maintain electronic and paper client and administrative files.
  • Coordinate attorney calendars, meetings, correspondence, and other administrative needs.
  • Assist with expense reports and monthly billing.
  • Support attorneys and paralegals in preparation for hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Help oversee daily workflow across the litigation support team, ensuring deadlines and priorities are properly assigned and tracked.
  • Train, mentor, and onboard team members on procedures, calendaring/docketing protocols, and e-filing systems.
  • Serve as a resource and point of escalation for complex filing, calendaring, and workflow questions.
  • Assist with litigation-related tasks such as discovery preparation, document summaries, and case chronologies as needed.
  • Provide support on special projects and other firm-wide initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of litigation experience within a mid-size or large law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of California state and federal court procedures and rules.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including training or mentoring staff and helping oversee team workflow.
  • Strong electronic calendaring and docketing experience.
  • Experience with docketing software such as Compulaw or Milana is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong proofreading, editing, formatting, and redlining skills.
  • Trial preparation experience is preferred.
  • Paralegal experience, litigation support certification, or a strong working knowledge of pleadings, discovery, and motion practice is a plus but not required.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize work for multiple attorneys in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with attorneys, clients, staff, and vendors.

You do not need to currently hold a formal Lead title. Candidates who have demonstrated leadership through mentoring, training, workflow coordination, or serving as a resource to other legal support professionals are encouraged to apply.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range is $120,000–$160,000, depending on experience.

The position also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, short- and long-term disability coverage, FSA/HSA options, 401(k) with firm contribution, paid time off, paid holidays, parental leave, an employee assistance program, and paid parking.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Some after-hours or weekend overtime may occasionally be required.
