This specialized law firm focuses its entire practice on employee benefits and Taft-Hartley multiemployer benefit plans, rather than operating an employee benefits practice as one department within a larger general-practice firm.

The firm represents a variety of multiemployer benefit plans and provides attorneys with the opportunity to handle sophisticated ERISA matters while working directly with clients and experienced attorneys in the field. The practice offers substantial exposure to federal litigation, including delinquent contribution matters and other ERISA-related disputes.

Job Details

A highly specialized Washington, DC law firm focused exclusively on employee benefits and Taft-Hartley multiemployer benefit plans is seeking a Litigation Associate to join its ERISA practice.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience representing Taft-Hartley trust funds in federal court, including demonstrated experience handling delinquent contribution collection matters.

This is an opportunity to take on significant case-handling responsibility, work directly with clients and gain exposure to a broad range of ERISA litigation matters.

Responsibilities:
  • Represent Taft-Hartley multiemployer benefit plans in federal court
  • Handle delinquent contribution collection matters
  • Prepare demand letters and negotiate resolutions
  • Draft motions, briefs and other pleadings
  • Conduct legal research and analysis
  • Manage discovery, including document collection and review
  • Communicate directly with clients
  • Assist with depositions and other litigation proceedings
  • Prepare cases for trial
  • Manage matters through various stages of federal litigation

Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of legal experience representing Taft-Hartley trust funds/multiemployer benefit plans
  • Demonstrated experience with delinquent contribution collection
  • Federal court litigation experience
  • Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills
  • Strong academic background
  • Excellent communication and case-management abilities
  • D.C. Bar membership or eligibility for admission by waiver

Compensation & Schedule:
  • $165,000–$200,000 base salary, depending on relevant experience
  • Bonus eligibility based on billing, realization and overall performance
  • 1,825-hour annual billing target
  • Full benefits package
  • Paralegal and legal secretary support
