Litigation Associate

Position Overview
We are seeking a Litigation Associate to join our litigation team and support representation of corporate and individual clients in complex civil disputes. The associate will handle case management from intake through trial, draft pleadings and motions, lead discovery, conduct legal research, advise clients on strategy, and work closely with partners on business, employment, and real estate litigation matters. The role requires strong courtroom and written advocacy skills, excellent client management, and the ability to manage a varied caseload in a fast-paced law firm environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse litigation caseload across business litigation, employment litigation, and real estate litigation matters from intake through resolution or trial.
  • Draft and file complaints, answers, motions, memoranda, discovery requests/responses, settlement agreements, and other court documents.
  • Conduct factual and legal research, prepare persuasive briefs and motion practice, and present oral arguments in court and administrative proceedings when appropriate.
  • Lead and coordinate discovery, including drafting interrogatories, requests for production, taking and defending depositions, and managing document review and e-discovery workflows.
  • Develop case strategy in collaboration with partners and senior attorneys; prepare trial exhibits, witness outlines, and trial binders; assist with trial preparation and courtroom presentation.
  • Provide timely, clear legal advice to clients on litigation risk, strategy, and settlement options; maintain strong client communication and relationships.
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and support staff on litigation matters and manage delegation to ensure quality and deadlines are met.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, client pitches, and firm initiatives; build professional network within the legal community.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards, court rules, and firm policies; maintain accurate timekeeping and billing records.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in good standing.
  • 2+ years of litigation experience at a law firm or in-house, with demonstrated exposure to business litigation. (Mid-level or greater candidates preferred; more experience valued.)
  • Proven experience handling employment litigation and/or real estate litigation matters is strongly preferred.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with a record of drafting persuasive pleadings and motion practice.
  • Courtroom experience, including depositions, hearings, and trial preparation; confident oral advocacy skills.
  • Excellent client-facing skills, professional demeanor, and the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to clients.
  • Strong project and time management skills; ability to handle multiple matters and deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with e-discovery tools, document management systems, and standard legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis).
  • Team-oriented approach, strong work ethic, and commitment to high ethical and professional standards.
  • Business development aptitude and interest in cultivating client relationships and contributing to firm growth.
