Litigation Associate – Charleston, SC

A well-established regional law firm is seeking a Litigation Associate to join its Charleston, South Carolina office. This is a full-time opportunity for an attorney interested in developing a broad civil litigation practice while working with business clients and financial services companies on a variety of complex legal matters.

The attorney will have the opportunity to handle matters involving commercial disputes, real estate litigation, foreclosure, bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, and regulatory or compliance-related issues. The position offers meaningful exposure to both state and federal proceedings and is well suited for an attorney who enjoys a combination of legal research, writing, case strategy, client interaction, and courtroom work.

Position Responsibilities

• Manage and assist with civil litigation matters from inception through resolution.
• Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other litigation documents.
• Assist with matters pending in state and federal courts, as well as bankruptcy proceedings.
• Represent and advise financial institutions, businesses, and other commercial clients.
• Participate in hearings, depositions, mediations, trials, and other court-related proceedings as appropriate.
• Analyze legal and factual issues and develop practical strategies for advancing client objectives.
• Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and other involved parties.
• Work with paralegals and other support professionals to efficiently manage cases.
• Delegate assignments appropriately and provide direction to support staff.
• Collaborate with attorneys across practice areas when matters involve overlapping legal or business considerations.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism, organization, responsiveness, and attention to detail.

Qualifications

Candidates should have:

• A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• An active license to practice law in South Carolina and good standing with the applicable bar.
• Approximately 0–5 years of private-practice civil litigation experience.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• The ability and willingness to develop courtroom and oral advocacy experience.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.
• The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
• Sound judgment and a practical, client-focused approach to legal issues.

Experience handling litigation in state or federal court and/or bankruptcy court is particularly valuable. Candidates with approximately 2–4 years of litigation experience are encouraged to apply.

Admission to the North Carolina Bar in addition to South Carolina licensure is a plus, but is not required.
