Summary:

The Bottling Line Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment and facility systems within a high-speed liquid bottling and beverage manufacturing environment. This position performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, adjustment, and inspection of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration, and utility systems.

The Mechanic supports liquid processing, filling, capping, labeling, conveying, packaging, palletizing, and other automated production equipment, as well as plant utilities including industrial ammonia refrigeration, boilers, pumps, compressed air, water, steam, and HVAC systems.

This position works closely with Production, Quality, Sanitation, and Safety to minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, maintain product quality and food safety, and ensure work is performed in accordance with CGWC procedures, GMPs, and applicable safety and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• * Inspect, test, troubleshoot, calibrate, install, maintain, adjust, and repair liquid bottling, processing, packaging, conveying, and automated production equipment.
• * Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control-related equipment problems, including motors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, valves, sensors, conveyors, and related components.
• * Observe operating equipment and use sound, vibration, temperature, equipment readings, visual inspection, and other diagnostic methods to identify abnormal conditions and causes of equipment failure.
• * Dismantle equipment as necessary to inspect, repair, adjust, align, or replace defective or worn components.
• * Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production line stoppages to safely restore operations and minimize downtime.
• * Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, adjustments, repairs, and equipment testing; identify deteriorating conditions before failure occurs.
• * Identify deteriorating equipment conditions before failure occurs and communicate repair recommendations to Maintenance leadership.
• * Document completed repairs, inspections, parts replaced, equipment conditions, and follow-up work required.
• * Assist in developing and improving preventive and predictive maintenance procedures.
• * Support root cause analysis of recurring equipment failures, excessive downtime, and chronic mechanical problems.
• * Start, cycle, and test repaired equipment to verify safe and proper operation before returning it to Production.
• * Troubleshoot motors, switches, sensors, relays, electronic controls, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and PLC-controlled equipment within the employee's training, qualification, and authorization.
• * within the employee's level of training, qualification, and authorization: Operate, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial ammonia refrigeration equipment, compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, and related systems within the employee's training and authorization.
• * Support maintenance of boilers, compressed air, water, steam, HVAC, pumps, and other plant utility systems.
• * Perform fabrication, cutting, grinding, drilling, light welding, and operation of approved shop equipment as required and within demonstrated qualifications.
• * Set up and operate shop equipment such as drill presses, grinders, saws, lathes, and other approved metalworking equipment.
• * Support equipment installation, upgrades, modifications, changeovers, startups, shutdowns, and continuous-improvement projects.
• * Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring equipment failures and chronic downtime.
• * Identify replacement parts and initiate or support purchase requests for parts, tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
• * Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts replaced, equipment conditions, and required follow-up work.
• * Communicate equipment status, outstanding repairs, and operational concerns to Maintenance leadership and affected departments.
• * Work closely with Production, Quality, Sanitation, and Safety to ensure equipment readiness and safe return to service following maintenance activities.
• * Perform maintenance in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety requirements, including protecting exposed product and food-contact surfaces and controlling tools, hardware, lubricants, chemicals, and other potential foreign-material hazards.
• * Follow all CGWC safety procedures and applicable OSHA/Cal-OSHA requirements, including Lockout/Tagout, machine guarding, electrical safety, hot work, confined space, fall protection, chemical handling, and required PPE.
• * Comply with applicable Process Safety Management (PSM), EPA, and IIAR requirements when performing work associated with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
• * Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment damage, leaks, spills, missing guards, food safety concerns, and other conditions requiring corrective action.
• * Participate in safety training, inspections, audits, investigations, preventive maintenance activities, and corrective-action programs.
• * Maintain tools, equipment, maintenance areas, and production work areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
• * Work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call assignments as required by operational needs.
• * Perform other related duties as assigned.

• ELECTRICAL CONTROLS, PNEUMATIC AND HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS

• * Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment within the employee's demonstrated training, qualification, and authorization.
• * Inspect and troubleshoot motors, switches, sensors, relays, control devices, wiring, and related electrical components.
• * Troubleshoot pneumatic systems, including cylinders, valves, regulators, actuators, air lines, and related components.
• * Troubleshoot hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, fittings, and related equipment.
• * Assist with troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment, electronic controls, sensors, and automated production systems.
• * Safely isolate hazardous energy before performing maintenance or repair activities in accordance with CGWC Lockout/Tagout procedures.

• SAFETY AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

• * Perform all work in accordance with CGWC safety policies and applicable OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements.
• * Follow Lockout/Tagout requirements whenever servicing or maintaining equipment where unexpected startup or release of hazardous energy could occur.
• * Follow applicable requirements for machine guarding, electrical safety, hot work, confined spaces, fall protection, chemical handling, compressed gases, and other maintenance hazards.
• * Use required personal protective equipment appropriate to the task and work area.
• * Never bypass, remove, defeat, or modify machine guards, interlocks, safety devices, or protective systems except as specifically authorized for maintenance and in accordance with approved procedures.
• * Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, leaks, spills, missing guards, electrical hazards, and other safety concerns.
• * Participate in safety meetings, training, inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective actions.
• * Support facility regulatory, customer, food safety, environmental, and internal audits as required.
• * Maintain clean and orderly maintenance and production work areas.
• * Exercise Stop Work Authority when an unsafe condition presents an immediate risk to employees, equipment, product, or the facility.

• OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

• * Work closely with Production, Quality, Sanitation, Warehouse, Safety, and other departments to maintain production readiness.
• * Communicate clearly with operators regarding equipment problems, repairs, operating conditions, and equipment release.
• * Prioritize multiple repairs and maintenance activities based on safety, food safety, production impact, and operational urgency.
• * Assist with equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, modifications, and continuous-improvement projects.
• * Provide maintenance support during production startups, shutdowns, changeovers, sanitation activities, and scheduled maintenance periods.
• * Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• * Work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call assignments as required by business and production needs.
• * Perform other related duties as assigned.

• SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

  EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• * Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, Refrigeration, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred; or four (4) or more years of relevant industrial maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• * Previous maintenance experience in a high-speed food, beverage, liquid bottling, packaging, or similar manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
• * Working knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, motors, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and automated production equipment.
• * Experience with industrial ammonia refrigeration, boilers, compressors, pumps, HVAC, PLCs, and electronic control systems preferred.
• * Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, schematics, diagrams, technical instructions, and preventive maintenance documentation.
• * Working knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA, Lockout/Tagout, GMP, FDA, food safety, sanitation, environmental, and applicable PSM requirements preferred.
• * Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• * Ability to prioritize and manage multiple repairs in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment.
• * Ability to use computerized maintenance systems, email, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and other required company technology.
• * Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, management, vendors, contractors, and other departments.
• * Proven reliability and ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

• OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

• * Must provide required personal tools in an appropriate locking tool chest, consistent with company requirements.
• * Beverage or liquid bottling manufacturing experience is highly desirable.
• * Experience with PLCs, automated production systems, mechanical systems, electronic controls, motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, ammonia refrigeration, boilers, pumps, compressors, and conveyors is highly desirable.
• * Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call assignments as required.
• * Required licenses, certifications, or specialized training may vary depending on assigned duties and regulatory requirements.

  WORK ENVIRONMENT

  Work is performed primarily in an active liquid bottling and beverage manufacturing facility. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, wet or humid conditions, high noise levels, hot or cold temperatures, steam and pressurized systems, industrial ammonia refrigeration, cleaning and sanitation chemicals, electrical hazards, compressed air, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, fumes or airborne particles, elevated work areas, mobile equipment traffic, and occasional outdoor weather conditions.

  Required PPE and established safety procedures must be followed based on the work area and task being performed.
