Description

Supports the cooperative's vegetation management and electric operations work. The primary responsibility of this position is using a wide array of tools and heavy equipment to maintain electric utility rights-of-way by clearing brush, trees, vines, and other vegetation around electric lines and facilities.Line Services Crewmen are also trained to support electric line crews. In addition to right-of-way work, employees may occasionally assist Line Technicians during scheduled daytime work and will respond after hours to help with outages and storm restoration.This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys outdoor, physically demanding work, working as part of a crew, and learning a variety of electric utility skills.What You'll DoResponsibilities may include:Clear brush, trees, vines, and other vegetation from electric utility rights-of-way.Maintain access to poles, lines, equipment, and other electric facilities.Use chainsaws, pole saws, brush grinders, tractors, trimmers, hand tools, and other vegetation management equipment.Cut, drag, pile, chip, and dispose of brush and woody debris.Work in wooded areas, along roadsides, on uneven terrain, and in other outdoor environments.Occasionally rotate into line crews to assist Line Technicians with construction, maintenance, service, and other electric distribution work.Assist with material handling, jobsite setup, traffic control, tool preparation, and other line crew support duties under the direction of qualified employees.Respond to after-hours outages and storm restoration events when scheduled or called upon.Help load, unload, transport, and organize tools, equipment, and materials.Inspect tools, vehicles, and equipment before use and report needed repairs or safety concerns.Inspect utility poles.Follow established safety procedures when working around electric facilities, traffic, equipment, vegetation, and other hazards.Maintain clean and orderly vehicles, tools, equipment, and work areas.Participate in training and an established apprentice progression for the position.Perform other related duties as assigned.What We're Looking ForCandidates should:Have a high school diploma or equivalent.Be dependable, safety-minded, and willing to learn.Be comfortable performing physically demanding work outdoors in changing weather conditions.Be willing and able to obtain a Class A CDL.Be able to walk and work on steep, uneven, or rough terrain.Be able to safely lift, carry, push, pull, and handle tools, brush, equipment, and materials associated with the work.Be comfortable using hand tools and learning to safely operate chainsaws, vegetation equipment, trucks, tractors/machines, trailers, and other utility equipment.Be able to work safely around electric distribution facilities and follow detailed instructions and procedures.Work effectively as part of a crew and communicate well with coworkers and supervisors.Be willing and able to respond to after-hours outages, storms, and other emergency situations as required.Be willing to periodically assist line crews and learn basic electric work.Previous experience with tree work, landscaping, forestry, farming, construction, utility work, equipment operation, or other outdoor labor is helpful but not required.Position DetailsThis is a full-time position supporting the cooperative's vegetation management and electric operations. The work is performed primarily outdoors and involves a combination of right-of-way clearing, equipment operation, and occasional support of electric line crews.Because electric service must be restored when outages occur, employees in this position may be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during severe weather.Schedule: Normal working hours start as early as 6:00 am and end at as late as 4:30pm, Monday-Friday.
