    Lighting Service Engineer

    Location: Birmingham, AL
    Contract- 3 Years

    Client- Alabama Power

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Lighting Service Engineer to support Southern Company’s lighting design, maintenance, and field operations. The ideal candidate will have a solid engineering or technical background, field-readiness, strong communication skills, and experience with Southern Company operations or co-op programs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform lighting service work for Southern Company Distribution and Transmission systems

    • Conduct field evaluations of lighting infrastructure and document findings

    • Interpret and execute lighting design tasks, including site assessments and installations

    • Coordinate and communicate with internal teams, customers, and contractors

    • Use basic tools to install equipment or conduct field assessments

    • Navigate Southern Company’s proprietary programs and Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting

    • Drive to job sites and perform hands-on work in various weather and terrain conditions

    • Prioritize safety and accuracy in all work activities

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field

    • Southern Company (SOCO) Co-op or Distribution/Transmission experience preferred

    • Experience with SOCO lighting design systems and processes strongly desired

    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

    • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills

    • Excellent verbal and written communication

    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality

    • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle required

    • Physically able to walk uneven terrain and work in temperature extremes (heat/cold)

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other APC/SOCO computer programs
