Light Industrial - Sheet Metal/LO Coater Technician
Location: Tyndall AFB, FL, 32403
About the Role
Join a dynamic team supporting 5th Generation Fighter Aircraft as a Sheet Metal/LO Coater Technician at Tyndall AFB. This role is ideal for skilled technicians passionate about precision fabrication, advanced coatings, and innovative repair solutions in military aviation. Work hands-on with state-of-the-art aircraft and enjoy a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and safety are paramount.
Responsibilities
- Interpret complex aircraft engineering drawings, technical manuals, and repair documentation
- Identify aircraft locations using station, butt-line, and waterline references
- Operate precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, and scales
- Utilize drills, angle motors, shears, drill presses, pneumatic riveters, and other hand tools
- Fabricate detail parts: shims, splices, gussets, brackets, doublers, stiffeners, and patches
- Perform advanced bonding of aircraft parts and assemblies, ensuring critical fit and adherence to specifications
- Set up and operate material testers and mixers
- Record procedural data and maintain detailed documentation for future reference
- Improvise shop aids and fabricate custom components as needed for assembly operations
- Execute trimming, filing, drilling, riveting, reforming, and fitting of parts
- Maintain a safe, clean, and FOD-free work environment, following strict PPE protocols (including respirators, Tyvek suits, and gloves)
- Contribute to LO restore and modification projects for F-22/F-35 aircraft
Required Skills and Experience
- 5th Generation Fighter Aircraft Sheet Metal experience
- Low Observable Coatings application and training
- 5 or 7 skill level (USAF AFSC, Navy NEC, Marine MOS discipline) or equivalent Airframe and Power Plant/FAA certificate
- Minimum 5 years related experience
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and fabrication tools
- Ability to interpret complex technical documentation
- Commitment to safety and quality standards
Preferred Skills
- Direct F-22 or F-35 experience
- Advanced Low Observable Coatings application experience and training
