Job Summary: Provide academic, functional, and behavioral support to assigned student(s) as directed by the Life Skills Support Teacher and/or Classroom Teacher. Support the Life Skills Teacher with daily classroom routines and expectations.

Position Information:

  • Full-time - with benefits, and Part-time available
  • Monday-Friday, 184 days/year
  • Hours per day: Varies
  • Range 08, Starting Salary $16.00

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Encourage student independence.
  • Provide instructional support to the teacher or assigned student(s) by assisting in differentiated instruction and formative and summative assessment.
  • Provide functional support to assigned student(s) to assist with toileting, feeding, and/or safety (in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, playground, etc.).
  • Implement strategies and interventions as outlined in student behavioral support plans. Collect data on individual student academic and behavioral support plans.
  • Work with students to encourage regular daily attendance and develop positive mentor relationships with assigned students.
  • Provide support to the assigned student in support settings and push into mainstream classes to deliver support services in the least restrictive setting.
  • Gather data for the teacher's progress monitoring.
  • Provide assigned student(s) one-to-one support on using assistive technology, as appropriate.
  • Provide support for student health needs, including training on seizure protocols, diabetes protocols, CGM Blood Sugar Monitor, Hearing Aids, and lift transfer procedures, as well as specialized equipment.
  • Assist the teacher and student(s) in Community-based Instructional opportunities to generalize taught skills and learn and practice the necessary skills for the environment.
  • Provide clerical support to the teacher, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Life Skills Support Teacher, Classroom Teacher, and/or Special Education Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent necessary

Recommended:

  • An associate degree or higher; or
  • Completed at least two years of postsecondary study (48 credits); or
  • The successful completion of a state or locally developed assessment
