At RWJBarnabas Health, our Licensed Practical Nurses play an essential role in providing compassionate, individualized care to children and young adults with complex medical, developmental, and rehabilitation needs. As a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pediatric Long-Term Care at Childrens Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, youll provide hands-on nursing care under the supervision of registered nursing professionals while supporting each patients comfort, safety, and overall well-being. Working closely with nurses, therapists, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals, youll contribute to individualized care plans that promote continuity of care, rehabilitation goals, and quality of life. This opportunity allows you to build meaningful relationships with patients and families while making a positive difference in the lives of children requiring specialized, ongoing nursing support.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), a typical shift may include:
Providing compassionate, rehabilitative nursing care to pediatric patients with complex medical, developmental, and long-term healthcare needs
Performing and documenting nursing interventions within the LPN scope of practice and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures
Monitoring patient conditions, recognizing changes in clinical status, and promptly communicating concerns to the Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, or supervising Registered Nurse
Taking appropriate nursing actions within the LPN scope of practice while accurately recording and reporting patient observations and responses to care
Collaborating with Registered Nurses and interdisciplinary team members to implement individualized nursing care plans and rehabilitation interventions
Supporting continuity of care through effective communication, timely documentation, and coordination with the nursing and rehabilitation teams
Participating in patient and family education under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to reinforce care plans and support ongoing healthcare needs
Promoting patient comfort, dignity, safety, and emotional well-being while providing developmentally appropriate nursing care
Recognizing and respecting patient and family rights while maintaining cultural and religious sensitivity throughout the care experience
Seeking guidance from Registered Nurses, nursing leadership, and appropriate clinical resources when patient care needs require additional support
Maintaining professional accountability by following nursing standards, organizational policies, and established patient safety practices
Participating in ongoing professional development, self-evaluation, and learning opportunities to strengthen clinical competencies and nursing practice

To be considered for this Licensed Practical Nurse opportunity, you must be a graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing and possess a current New Jersey Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider Certification is required. A minimum of one year of nursing experience is preferred, particularly in pediatric nursing or rehabilitation. The ideal candidate demonstrates knowledge of practical nursing principles, rehabilitative nursing care, patient assessment and observation, clinical documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills are essential, along with the ability to recognize changes in patient condition, communicate effectively with supervising nursing professionals, and provide compassionate care to pediatric patients and their families. Candidates must be comfortable working in a pediatric inpatient environment, interacting regularly with patients, families, and healthcare professionals, and meeting the physical demands of patient care, including safely lifting and moving patients and equipment. This is a full-time, night shift, hourly opportunity working 36 hours per week in the Pediatric Long-Term Care department at Childrens Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, part of RWJBarnabas Health
