QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate, Masters Degree with Certification in Library Media, K-12 Background as school Media Specialist Experienced in instructional technologies, and meets NCLB Criteria for Highly Qualified Teacher REPORTS TO: School and System Leadership JOB GOAL: To create a culture of intellectual curiosity where all students have ownership over their learning and are inspired to think, innovate, and create. EVALUATION: Pike Road Board of Education Continuous Improvement Plan PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: As Coach/Teacher:
Ensure effective practices in the selection, use, and evaluation of materials that support and enhance teaching and learning. Continuously learn and utilize new technologies and electronic resources to achieve the system mission. Manage the Library Media Center to be responsive to students, teachers, parents, and community members' needs and interest with an emphasis on learning any time and any where. Provide guidance to students, teachers, and parents in the selection and acquisition of instructional materials in varying formats and levels of difficulty. Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate school library media resources and services. Keep school personnel, parents, and the community abreast of services, resources, and activities to achieve the school system's mission. Embrace the teacher's role as facilitator, navigator, mentor, and encourager. Value and collaborate with community and global experts to create challenging, authentic, and meaningful learning experiences and projects for students - - including the use of mentors, internships, apprenticeships, field trips, etc. Collaborate, partner, model, and co-teach to demonstrate media tools and resources that enhance learning. Collaborate with teachers and students to design, redesign, and facilitate challenging, authentic, and meaningful work that appeals to students' motives, interests, and learning styles. Participate, plan, lead and/or provide professional learning. Model lifelong learning and curiosity to students and teachers. Encourage students' curiosity, self-discipline, and ownership of learning. Solicit and incorporate the voice of students concerning their learning. Use a variety of tools to measure student and teacher engagement and assess their learning.
As Leader/Influencer:
Embrace and promote the system's mission, vision, beliefs, and goals. Conduct action research, share expertise, and contribute to the field of education. Collaborate and advise on software and hardware purchases and implementation. Provide leadership and assist in implementing technology initiatives. Assist in the development of system policies and procedures governing library media and technology resources. Provide leadership and assist in the implementation of the Technology Plan for the system. Seek technology grants from federal, state, and private sources. Fulfill professional responsibilities to include participation in school programs, school and system program improvement efforts, and community and parent groups. Model appropriate personal characteristics and work habits. Abide by and promote high ethical standards and adhere to the Alabama Code of Ethics for Educators. Performs other duties as required by school and system leadership.
