JOB TITLE: Library Media Specialist - Elementary School
CLASSIFICATION: Certified
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
LOCATION: All Elementary Buildings
START DATE: Immediately
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Library Media subject endorsement (ND) Awareness of the physical, social, emotional, and mental development of the learner. Proficient and knowledgeable in the subject area. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff. Strong communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of data and how it is used to inform instruction. Familiar with Math and/or Literacy interventions. Proficient with technology as an instructional tool.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, prepare and implement instruction and assessments. Honor and carry out district initiatives. Participate in professional development opportunities and demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning. Contributing member to a professional learning community. Communicate student progress and development with parents and staff. Provide a flexible, stable and pleasant learning environment that is child-centered while maintaining appropriate classroom management. Demonstrate creative and innovative lesson plans that contribute to a highly engaged learning community. Ability to demonstrate judgment, decision-making, conflict management and resolution. Perform other duties as assigned.

The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds in supplies which requires bending, stooping, and lifting. The employee must use keyboards, tools, and other controls. The employee must sit and stand for long periods of time. The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid. The employee must be able to move about the assigned location unaided during the day.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is required to interact with students, staff, parents / guardians and occasionally with the public. At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
EVALUATION: Job performance is evaluated in accordance with district guidelines. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time employment: The amount of contract, length of the workday and the number of workdays currently is determined by the Superintendent and/or his/her designee.
