Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Level II NDT Technicians with a primary focus on Radiographic Testing (RT) to perform field inspections across oil & gas, pipeline, fabrication, manufacturing, refinery, power, and other industrial environments.
The ideal candidate is a qualified Level II RT Technician with hands-on X-ray truck experience who can independently perform inspections, interpret results, maintain accurate documentation, and work in accordance with applicable codes, customer requirements, and radiation safety procedures.
Additional Level II certifications in Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Penetrant Testing (PT), and Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UTT) are highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Radiographic Testing
- Perform Level II Radiographic Testing (RT) using X-ray equipment.
- Set up, operate, and maintain radiographic inspection equipment.
- Operate X-ray trucks and associated inspection equipment safely and efficiently.
- Establish and maintain controlled areas in accordance with applicable radiation safety requirements.
- Evaluate and interpret radiographic inspection results within the technician's certification and authorization.
- Ensure inspections are performed in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, specifications, and customer requirements.
Additional NDT Methods
Based on individual certifications and qualifications, technicians may also:
- Perform Magnetic Particle Testing (MT).
- Perform Penetrant Testing (PT).
- Perform Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UTT).
- Support additional NDT methods based on project requirements and technician qualifications.
Inspection & Documentation
- Interpret inspection results in accordance with applicable ASME, API, AWS, and customer requirements.
- Prepare accurate and complete inspection reports.
- Maintain required inspection records and supporting documentation.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly to appropriate project and customer personnel.
- Ensure documentation is completed accurately and within required timelines.
Equipment & Field Operations
- Safely operate company inspection vehicles and field equipment.
- Perform routine checks of NDT equipment before and after use.
- Maintain equipment and ensure proper storage and transportation.
- Work effectively at customer facilities and remote field locations.
- Travel to regional and national job sites based on project requirements.
- Work extended or non-traditional hours when required by customer schedules or field operations.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all applicable company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
- Maintain strict compliance with radiation safety procedures.
- Maintain required certifications, state cards, and/or IRRSP credentials.
- Ensure inspection activities are performed within the scope of individual NDT certifications and qualifications.
- Maintain a professional and safety-focused approach while working at industrial facilities and customer locations.
Required Qualifications
- ASNT Level II qualification/certification in Radiographic Testing (RT).
- Current applicable State Radiography Card and/or IRRSP certification.
- Hands-on experience performing industrial radiographic inspections.
- Experience operating X-ray trucks and radiographic equipment.
- Industrial field inspection experience.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
- Ability to accurately interpret and document inspection results.
- Ability to work independently in field environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
- Flexibility to work extended hours and schedules based on project requirements.
Additional Certifications Preferred
Candidates with one or more additional Level II NDT qualifications/certifications are strongly preferred, including:
- MT – Magnetic Particle Testing
- PT – Penetrant Testing
- UTT – Ultrasonic Thickness Testing
- UT – Ultrasonic Testing
Preferred Experience & Qualifications
Additional experience in the following areas is highly desirable:
- Computed Radiography (CR)
- Digital Radiography (DR)
- Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- Welder qualification/testing support
- Pipeline inspection
- Oil & gas facilities
- Fabrication and manufacturing inspection
- Refinery or petrochemical environments
- Power generation or other heavy industrial facilities
Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidates will bring a combination of:
- Current Level II RT credentials.
- Active State Card and/or IRRSP.
- Strong hands-on X-ray truck experience.
- Additional Level II certifications in MT, PT, and/or UTT.
- Experience working independently in industrial field environments.
- Strong understanding of ASME, API, AWS, and applicable customer specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and inspection documentation skills.
- Strong safety awareness, particularly regarding radiographic operations.
- Reliability and flexibility regarding travel and field schedules.
- Professional communication skills when working with customers, technicians, supervisors, and other field personnel.
Work Environment
This is a field-based industrial position requiring frequent travel to customer and project locations. Work may be performed at oil & gas facilities, pipelines, fabrication shops, manufacturing facilities, refineries, power facilities, construction sites, and other industrial environments.
Candidates should be prepared for varying weather conditions, physically demanding field work, extended hours, and changing project schedules.
Career Development
Technicians with multiple NDT certifications and experience with advanced inspection technologies may have opportunities to expand into additional methods such as CR/DR and PAUT, pursue CWI credentials, and progress into senior technician, lead, or supervisory responsibilities.
