About Guideship
Guideship is a nonprofit workforce development organization dedicated to creating career pathways for underserved communities through mentorship, internships, apprenticeships, workforce readiness training, and cybersecurity education.
Over the past three years, our affiliated workforce development initiatives have invested more than $700,000 to develop and mature a nationally recognized Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Program. The program has become one of Maryland's leading cybersecurity apprenticeship models, serving individuals from underserved communities and helping graduates launch careers in technology and cybersecurity.
We are now seeking experienced volunteer Board Members who can help Guideship scale its impact through fundraising, strategic partnerships, donor engagement, and nonprofit growth.
Description
The Legal & Governance Chair provides leadership regarding nonprofit governance, organizational compliance, ethics, risk management, and board effectiveness.
The Chair helps ensure that Guideship operates in accordance with applicable laws, its governing documents, and nonprofit best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Review and recommend updates to bylaws, policies, and governance practices.
- Support board recruitment, orientation, and succession planning.
- Monitor compliance with nonprofit laws and regulations.
- Review conflict-of-interest disclosures and governance matters.
- Coordinate with outside legal counsel when needed.
- Serve on the Founder Legacy Committee.
- Support organizational risk management and policy development.
Preferred Qualifications- Attorney, compliance professional, nonprofit executive, governance consultant, corporate secretary, or similar professional experience.
- Knowledge of nonprofit governance and board operations.
- Experience serving on nonprofit boards preferred.
- Commitment to ethical leadership and mission stewardship.
Time Commitment
4–8 hours per month.
