We are seeking a Legal Assistant to support the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) in the Washington Regional Office in Washington, DC. In this role, you will provide administrative support for MSPB operations by supporting day-to-day office needs and appeal processing activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Receive incoming telephone calls/visitors, determine the nature of their business, and refer calls to the appropriate staff
Assist with the receipt and distribution of incoming mail for the agency
Create paper files, indexes, and other documents as needed
Tab and file paper records for quick retrieval
Enter data and type consistently on a personal computer
Use office equipment to conduct daily office work
Operate personal computers, fax machines, and copy machines as needed
Scan documents using office scanners and mail equipment
Communicate with court reporters to schedule telephone conferences
Coordinate in-person hearings and video hearings with external customers
Initiate inquiries regarding case processing for the Administrative Judge
Respond to appeal inquiries on behalf of the Administrative Judge
Address questions from the public, appellants, and representatives at the Supervisory Paralegal Specialist’s direction
Explain general Board procedures for potential, pending, and past appeals
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the legal field
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
2-4 years of experience in the administrative field or in a related legal assistant area
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent required
Undergraduate degree preferred
