The Minnehaha County States Attorneys Office invites applications for a Legal Administrative Specialist to join our team! As a vital member of our dynamic team of legal professionals, youll play a crucial role in the justice system. Our office, which comprises 11 Legal Administrative Specialists, is dedicated to supporting attorneys with essential tasks such as legal document preparation, case management, and the logistical arrangements of legal proceedings.
As a Legal Administrative Specialist, youll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our community. Your responsibilities will include preparing and disseminating legal documents, managing case files, assisting with legal proceedings, and providing essential support to top prosecutorial attorneys in adult criminal cases, juvenile criminal cases, and cases involving abuse and neglect.

How You Will Make an Impact
What You Need to Succeed in this Role
High school diploma or GED plus two years of general secretarial work. Comparable combination of education and experience. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process.
Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and legal terminology. Knowledge of and skill in using technology and related software systems with reasonable speed. Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive or restricted information. Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and the public. Present a professional appearance and communicate with others in a respectful and approachable way. Possess excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task. Must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure. Must possess a willingness to learn and exhibit flexibility in a fast-paced environment. Must have the ability to work as part of a team, as well as to work independently. High level of proficiency with Word and Outlook, experience with Excel and PowerPoint. Attention to detail with high precision in proofreading, data entry and file management.

Insurance
Health/Prescription - Minnehaha Countys health benefit plan offers low deductibles with two network options for coverage: Avera or Sanford. The county pays for 75% of the premium rates. Pharmacy benefits included.
Dental - Minnehaha County offers dental insurance through Delta Dental which covers 100% of diagnostic and preventative services.
Life Insurance - Minnehaha County provides a $15,000 basic life insurance policy for every full-time employee along with and additional $15,000 accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) benefit. Additional term life insurance and AD&D may be purchased by employees for themselves and dependents through payroll deduction.
Retirement
Retirement Plan - Minnehaha County participates in the South Dakota Retirement System. Employees receive a 6% match (8% for certified law enforcement). Other SDRS benefits include long term disability. Employees are vested after 3 years of continuous employment.
Deferred Compensation Plan - Employees may choose to save additional funds toward retirement on a pre-tax or after-tax (Roth IRA) basis through our supplemental retirement program.
Paid Time Off
Paid Time Off (PTO) - earn approximately 130 hours annually, with increasing accruals with each year of service. PTO available beginning on day one.
Holiday Leave - 12 days per calendar year
Extended Sick Leave - approximately 65 hours per year

Flexible Spending Reimbursement Accounts (FSA) - Minnehaha County offers FSA for Health Care and Dependent Care. This is a great way to put money aside for health and dependent care costs on a pre-tax basis.
