Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public''s access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.
Summary Statement
The Criminal Division seeks a Legal Administrative Specialist to provide clerical/administrative support to Deputy Attorneys General prosecuting cases in the Misdemeanor Trial Unit in Kent County. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, setting up case files, running criminal record checks, typing and preparing various documents, requesting reports, responding to discovery, managing calendars, filing documents, and preparing witness lists. This position will also participate in a rotation schedule to provide backup coverage for the main Criminal Division receptionist to cover lunch breaks and in the event of an absence.
This is a Casual/Seasonal position, currently approved to work up to 37.5 hours per week. The position is paid on an hourly basis, and compensation is provided only for hours actually worked. This position is non-pension eligible and does not include healthcare or other State benefits

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Possession of an associateâs degree or higher.
Knowledge of legal terminology.
OR
One year of experience in coordinating office activities such as planning/coordinating meetings or conferences; tracking workflow and follow up; composing meeting notes; directing clients/customers; explaining services to the public and customers/clients; establishing or maintaining filing/record systems.
One year of experience in document processing which includes reviewing and evaluating records for completeness and conformity with laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures, resolve deficiencies, interpret information, and track and monitor activities.
One year of experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
Knowledge of legal terminology. Â

Two years of experience:

⢠In document processing, which includes reviewing and evaluating records for completeness and conformity with laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures, resolve deficiencies, interpret information, and track and monitor activities.
⢠Using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
⢠Using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
⢠Preparing legal documents.
