Job Title Lecturer (Part-Time) in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies Rank Adjunct Instructor Tenure Information Term Summary

The Department of Ancient and Modern Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor beginning spring semester 2027. We seek candidates who demonstrate commitment to excellent teaching. The teaching load for this position is one course of undergraduate Latin language at the beginning level (second semester) and one course on Greek and Roman mythology, taught in English. Part-time faculty are paid on a per-credit-hour basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare course materials and pedagogy to achieve course learning goals and objectives.
• Employ appropriate pedagogy for the assigned courses.
• Conduct classes and deliver course material on assigned days and times.
• Utilize University Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver course information to students.
• Evaluate and grade student work in a timely manner.
• Maintain availability to students during posted hours to assist students.
• Respond in a timely manner to departmental and student communications.
• Meet periodically with supervisors and colleagues for collaboration, training, and development.
• Participate in departmental efforts to assess student learning.
• Respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.

Required Qualifications

• MA or PhD in Classics, Classical Archaeology, or Ancient History from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university.
• A commitment to outstanding teaching and delivering an excellent student experience is required. Candidates should possess a strong record of professional service and be willing to engage in departmental and university service appropriate to their rank.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preference will be given to applicants who have experience teaching language and culture at the undergraduate level.

Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions

During the academic year, courses are taught on campus and face-to-face. Class times vary and instructors are expected to post available time for student questions outside of regular class hours. Student conferences may be conducted by Zoom or telephone as necessary.
