A strong preference will be given to candidates with education in computer information systems or a related discipline, along with prior teaching experience in higher education and analytics with spreadsheet technology.
It is also preferred that the successful candidate hold the MOS Excel Associate 365 Apps certification at the time of hire or commit to obtaining it within 60 days of employment (administered through the CIS department). Experience troubleshooting technical issues in computing environments is highly desirable. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to support students and faculty in technology-based learning and assessment settings.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Computer Information Systems is housed in the Walker College of Business https://business.appstate.edu/ at Appalachian State University. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This is a remote position with primary responsibility for teaching the introductory spreadsheet analytics course (CIS 1060) in the Flight Path program. Each course assignment is delivered over an 8-week term, with the teaching assignment distributed across the academic year as follows:
Fall 1: 2 courses
Fall 2: 2 courses
Spring 1: 2 courses
Spring 2: 2 courses
Summer: 2 courses
The Lecturer will be expected to effectively use and manage technology platforms that support online instruction and assessment, using Canvas as the learning management system, GMetrix for exam preparation and assessment, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365, and other instructional and testing platforms that support student learning and certification activities. The Lecturer will also be expected to participate in service activities at the program, department, college, university, profession, and community levels, and responsibilities will include coaching and mentoring students.

ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
