Overview:

The Department of Horticulture in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Horticulture Lecturer. This faculty position is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track, 100% instruction appointment that may be renewed annually contingent upon satisfactory performance. There may be an opportunity for a separate appointment during the summer for additional instructional and student-related activities. Full-time positions are eligible for benefits, including health insurance. The projected start date is January 4, 2027.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be instructor of record for several vital undergraduate horticulture courses that may include, but are not limited to: HORT 2210 – Landscape Gardening (4 credits); HORT 3280 – Landscape Construction (4 credits); HORT 3910 – Professional Landscape (3 credits); HORT 3950 – Careers in Horticulture (2 credits); and HORT 5210/6210 – Landscape Bidding, Installation, and Maintenance (4 credits). The semester-based course load will be in keeping with college instructional workload guidelines, with 12 credits taught per semester. Course assignments could be changed and/or negotiated with the department head as needed and agreed upon based on the needs of the department. The incumbent will advise the Auburn University Landscape and Nursery Association (AULNA) student club and participate on the Student Scholarships and Awards Committee. The instructor will participate in training students in hands-on learning opportunities at the Auburn University Transformation Garden.

Qualifications:

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in horticulture from an accredited institution or a doctorate in a closely related plant science discipline by the time employment begins; experience as an instructor of record for undergraduate horticulture or related plant science courses at the university or community college level; a passion for training the next generation of leaders through highly engaged instruction and hands-on learning; and excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. The incumbent must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and maintain legal authorization to work for the term of employment.

 

Desirable qualifications include: A strong background and experience in the following areas are highly desirable: ornamental horticulture; commercial landscape design, construction, and maintenance; student recruitment; undergraduate student club advising; and training students for successful competition in national events such as the NALP National Collegiate Landscape Competition.
