Lead the Way. Redefine the Classroom.

In an alternative education setting, the traditional "one size fits all" approach doesn't work. Our students need a leader who can build a community of trust, manage complex behavioral needs with rational detachment, and provide a roadmap to graduation for those who have struggled elsewhere.

As the Alternative Program Lead Teacher, you are the hub of the program. You are not just a teacher; you are the primary point of contact for families and school districts, a mentor to support staff and teachers, and a steady hand in crisis situations. If you are a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a dynamic, non-traditional environment, we want you on our team.

CPLC (Central Point Learning Center) is an alternative education program located in Stevens Point, WI. The building houses a middle/high school and an elementary program. CESA 5 Alternative Education programs serve as placement options for students who have not found success in their resident districts. Instruction at the programs focuses on each child's emotional, social, and behavioral skill sets while working collaboratively with a student's resident district to maintain academic standing.

What You'll Do

Program Leadership & Operations

  • Serve as the primary contact for the program, overseeing daily operations and ensuring a safe, positive environment.
  • Organize and facilitate weekly staff meetings to ensure the team is aligned and supported.
  • Supervise and evaluate designated support staff, fostering their professional growth.
  • Manage facility needs, from daily maintenance to ensuring a clean, regulation-friendly environment.

Instructional Excellence & IEP Management

  • Provide direct instruction and develop engaging lesson plans tailored to students'' unique needs and credit requirements.
  • Develop, coordinate, and update IEPs for students with special education needs, ensuring alignment between goals and progress.
  • Collaborate with home districts to manage referrals, conduct entry/exit meetings, and track graduation requirements.

Crisis Management & Student Support

  • Lead the team in managing crisis situations with professionalism and a focus on student safety and dignity.
  • Build strong, restorative relationships with students, parents, and county agencies.
  • Coordinate transportation to and from home in an agency vehicle.

What Makes You a Great Fit?

  • Credentials: You hold a valid Wisconsin DPI license for your assigned area and a valid driver's license with an excellent driving record.
  • Temperament: You are a master of "rational detachment"-able to stay calm, professional, and positive even in high-stress or crisis situations.
  • Organization: You have the time-management skills to balance instructional duties with administrative tasks, vehicle logs, and facility oversight.
  • Communication: You can build effective working relationships with everyone from a frustrated student to a high-level district administrator.
  • Physical Ability: You are ready to be "on the move"-whether that's participating in physical activities with students or managing transitions in varying weather conditions.
