About the Role

Essnova Solutions is seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to support a large-scale federal technology modernization initiative supporting the U.S. Census Bureau.

This opportunity is designed for senior systems engineers with backgrounds in cloud and DevSecOps engineering, enterprise systems engineering, or geospatial systems engineering. Candidates will work alongside architects, developers, infrastructure engineers, security professionals, and program stakeholders to design, integrate, automate, and modernize complex mission-critical systems.

What You’ll Do

• Provide senior-level systems engineering expertise for enterprise modernization initiatives.
• Design and integrate scalable enterprise systems and technical solutions.
• Support modernization of legacy and mission-critical technology environments.
• Develop engineering approaches for system integration, automation, and deployment.
• Evaluate technical requirements and translate them into implementable engineering solutions.
• Collaborate across architecture, development, cloud, security, infrastructure, and program teams.
• Support technical documentation, system design, engineering standards, and modernization planning.
• Contribute to the development and integration of secure, scalable enterprise systems.

Work Location

This position supports the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland under a hybrid work model. Candidates must be located in the DC/MD/VA area or be willing to commute to Suitland.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• 15+ years of relevant systems engineering experience.
• Experience supporting complex enterprise technology environments.
• Strong systems integration and modernization experience.
• Senior technical leadership or SME-level systems engineering experience.
• Experience in one or more of the following technical areas:

Geospatial Systems Engineering

• MAF/TIGER systems
• Esri ArcGIS Enterprise
• ArcGIS Portal
• Oracle Spatial/Topology
• FME
• WFS/WMS
• Enterprise geospatial systems and integration

Cloud & DevSecOps Systems Engineering

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Terraform
• Ansible
• CI/CD pipelines
• DevSecOps integration
• Cloud infrastructure and automation

Preferred Qualifications

Depending on technical specialization:

• ESEP – Expert Systems Engineering Professional
• CSEP
• SAFe/Scrum
• Professional-level cloud certification
