Overview:
Lead and manage surveying efforts for complex land development, infrastructure, and construction projects. Applies advanced technical expertise to oversee survey planning, field operations, data analysis, and deliverables. Provides mentorship to staff, ensures high-quality results, and supports efficient project execution while contributing to operational excellence and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Direction
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for survey teams on complex or large-scale projects.
- Supervise and mentor Surveyors I–III and Surveyors in Training to support professional growth and technical development.
- Plan, coordinate, and direct field and office survey activities.
- Ensure adherence to established surveying standards, procedures, and quality control expectations.
- Review and approve survey work products, methodologies, and workflows.
- Serve as a resource for resolving complex technical survey challenges.
At the Operational and Company Level
- Collaborate with engineering, design, and construction teams to support integrated project delivery.
- Contribute to resource planning, scheduling, and workload management for survey teams.
- Support project managers in scope development, budgeting, and scheduling of survey activities.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability across project teams.
- Assist in identifying process improvements, technology enhancements, and workflow efficiencies.
- Participate in client interaction and support relationship development through technical expertise and service delivery.
- Support company initiatives, training programs, and operational improvements.
Do the Work
- Lead and oversee field survey operations including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction staking, and control surveys.
- Direct survey planning, data collection strategies, and field crew coordination.
- Review and validate field data, calculations, and survey deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and review survey plats, maps, legal descriptions, and reports.
- Analyze and resolve complex boundary, control, and field data discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable survey standards, regulations, and project requirements.
- Oversee data processing, coordinate systems, adjustments, and geospatial integration.
- Utilize and guide the use of advanced survey technologies including GNSS, robotic total stations, LiDAR, and UAV/drone mapping.
- Coordinate field-to-finish workflows to ensure efficient and accurate deliverables.
- Support engineering teams in interpreting survey data for design and construction applications.
- Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and use of survey equipment.

Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or related discipline preferred.
- Eight or more (8+) years of relevant surveying experience, including leadership of field crews or project components.
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure required.
- Strong knowledge of boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction layout, and control networks.
- Proficiency with survey equipment including GNSS, robotic total stations, and data collectors.
- Advanced experience with survey and CAD software such as Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, MicroStation, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of coordinate systems, survey adjustments, and data processing workflows.
- Familiarity with survey standards, regulations, and quality control practices.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
- Partly indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and Mobility around an office environment.
- Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Partly outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
- Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.
- Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
- Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
