A national design-build engineering firm is seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to support its dedicated Food & Beverage division. This is an opportunity to take a lead structural role on complex manufacturing and processing facilities from initial concept and design through construction and facility operation.
The ideal candidate will bring strong structural design experience within Food & Beverage, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, biotech, or another FDA-regulated manufacturing environment.
The Role
The Lead Structural Engineer will provide technical leadership and oversight for structural engineering design services throughout the full project lifecycle. Working closely with architectural, process, MEP, refrigeration, preconstruction, estimating and construction teams, this individual will develop structural solutions that are technically sound, constructible, cost-effective and aligned with project schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural engineering design and coordination for complex manufacturing and processing facilities.
- Serve as Engineer of Record for applicable in-house structural design services.
- Design and evaluate structural systems utilizing steel, concrete, masonry and wood.
- Develop construction drawings, specifications and other structural engineering deliverables.
- Provide structural evaluations and engineering solutions for repairs, modifications and emergency conditions.
- Coordinate structural requirements with architectural, process, MEP and refrigeration engineering disciplines.
- Partner with preconstruction, estimating and construction teams to evaluate constructability, cost and alternative design solutions.
- Support design-build pursuits, including project scoping, proposals, client presentations and interviews.
- Review structural submittals and respond to RFIs during construction.
- Apply current building codes, construction methodologies and design standards.
- Support model-based estimating and integrated design/construction workflows.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers and contribute to the continued development of engineering standards and best practices.
Qualifications
- Approximately 5–15 years of structural engineering design experience.
- Experience supporting industrial or manufacturing facility projects.
- Experience within Food & Beverage, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, biotech or another FDA-regulated industry strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel and concrete design and applicable building codes.
- Experience producing and reviewing construction documents, drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of construction means, methods and constructability.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering, architectural, estimating, preconstruction and field construction teams.
- Experience leading projects and mentoring less-experienced engineers is highly valued.
- Design-build experience is strongly preferred.
This is an excellent opportunity for a structural engineer who enjoys combining hands-on technical design with project leadership and wants to work on sophisticated manufacturing facilities for major Food & Beverage and regulated-industry clients.
