Are you inspired by invention? Is problem solving through teamwork in your DNA? Do you like the idea of seeing how your work impacts the bigger picture? Answer yes to any of these and you'll fit right in here at Amazon Robotics. We are a smart, collaborative team of doers that work passionately to apply imaginative advances in robotics and software to solve real-world problems that will transform our customers' experiences in ways we can't even imagine yet. We invent new improvements every day. We are Amazon Robotics and we will give you the tools and support you need to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling and fun.

The AR Sortation Solutions Design Team is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented engineer to design next-generation automated sortation systems for Amazon Fulfillment Centers (FCs), Sort Centers (SCs), and Amazon Logistics (AMZL). A successful candidate will have deep expertise in sortation technologies including linear sorters, crossbelt systems, palletizing automation, and AMR/AGV applications, with the ability to understand system-of-systems level interactions across material handling equipment, robotics, and facility infrastructure. You"ll need strong technical problem-solving abilities, excellent project management skills, the capacity to drive solution requirements to product teams, and the ability to effectively communicate with and influence stakeholders at all levels in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment.

The Solutions Design Team is responsible for translating business requirements into comprehensive robotic automation designs that integrate multiple technologies into cohesive solutions. You"ll examine and optimize existing robotic solution performance while combining those learnings with the latest sortation and automation technologies to design state-of-the-art solutions. This role requires validating solution feasibility through simulation modeling, defining equipment configurations and capacity requirements, and ensuring alignment between operational objectives and technical implementation across the entire solution architecture

Key job responsibilities

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Design automated sortation, package stacking into containers, and movement solutions that integrate with upstream and downstream systems to meet throughput requirements and Amazon design standards.
  • Analyze operational and financial metrics to inform design decisions and feature prioritization.
  • Partner with systems engineering and operations teams to optimize deployed solution performance.
  • Lead multiple concurrent projects while coordinating with internal teams, external partners, contractors, and vendors.
  • Build simulation models and conduct throughput analyses to validate solution feasibility and solve complex integration challenges and tradeoffs.
  • Drive technical design projects from concept through implementation, understanding system-of-systems interactions across robotics, MHE, and facility infrastructure.
  • Define solution requirements and drive them to product teams, ensuring alignment between business objectives and technical capabilities.
  • Collaborate with global stakeholders through all design phases from initial design and systems integration through construction and startup.
  • Work with product management and systems engineering to develop next-generation features that enhance solution performance.
  • Travel up to 15% to sites in the US, Canada, and EU.

About the Company

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
