We are seeking an experienced Engineering Team Lead / Lead Software Engineer to lead the development and operation of a large-scale enterprise identity and access management platform.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining software development and architecture with team leadership and delivery ownership. The ideal candidate is an accomplished full-stack engineer who can set technical direction, make architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and remain actively involved in building complex applications.
The technology environment includes Java/Spring Boot microservices, Angular micro-frontends, AWS cloud infrastructure, workflow automation, CI/CD, and enterprise testing frameworks.
The role is approximately 50–60% hands-on engineering and architecture and 40–50% technical leadership, planning, and stakeholder collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Own the end-to-end technical architecture across backend services, front-end applications, data, integrations, and cloud infrastructure.
- Establish architectural standards, engineering patterns, and development best practices.
- Lead technical design and architecture reviews and guide decisions around scalability, resiliency, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Establish standards for availability, observability, accessibility, and application security.
- Lead framework upgrades, modernization initiatives, and technical-debt reduction.
- Partner with security, compliance, product, and other technology teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise and regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to a team of software engineers.
- Establish a strong engineering culture centered on code quality, testing, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Lead and improve code-review practices.
- Break down complex initiatives, estimate and sequence work, and manage the team's technical backlog.
- Identify and remove technical blockers while keeping delivery initiatives on track.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, security, architecture, and other cross-functional teams.
Hands-On Software Engineering
- Design, develop, and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices and enterprise APIs.
- Build and enhance Angular/TypeScript applications and micro-frontends.
- Develop RESTful and reactive APIs using technologies such as Spring WebFlux.
- Implement secure authentication, authorization, entitlement, MFA, LDAP, and related identity-management capabilities.
- Build and operate cloud-native applications using AWS.
- Design and maintain relational database schemas, integrations, and migrations.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code-quality initiatives.
- Take ownership of complex, high-risk technical implementations and production issues.
Delivery & Operations
- Coordinate releases across multiple applications, services, and repositories.
- Champion application observability, operational readiness, and effective incident response.
- Continuously improve engineering processes, development tooling, automation, and delivery efficiency.
- Support production troubleshooting and technical escalations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of professional software development experience, including ownership of complex enterprise applications.
- 3+ years of experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, Engineering Team Lead, or similar technical leadership role.
- Advanced expertise in Java and Spring Boot, including Spring Security, WebFlux, Data JPA/Hibernate, and related frameworks.
- Strong Angular and TypeScript experience, ideally Angular 16+, including RxJS and modern component architecture.
- Experience designing and developing microservices and RESTful/reactive APIs.
- Hands-on AWS experience with services such as ECS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora, SQS, Lambda, S3, and load balancing.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL, SQL, Hibernate/JPA, and database migrations.
- Experience with Docker, Git, Maven, CI/CD, GitLab CI and/or Jenkins.
- Experience with automated testing, code-quality practices, and tools such as SonarQube and JaCoCo.
- Demonstrated experience owning system-level architecture and making complex technical trade-off decisions.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers, lead technical reviews, and improve engineering standards.
- Experience coordinating complex releases and modernization or framework-upgrade initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM), including authentication, authorization, entitlements, MFA, and LDAP.
- Experience with enterprise identity platforms such as PingOne.
- Experience with BPM/workflow technologies and BPMN-based workflow engines.
- Experience designing and supporting micro-frontend architectures.
- Experience with Elasticsearch.
- Experience with performance and automated testing tools such as Gatling and Playwright.
- Experience with feature-management or progressive-delivery platforms such as LaunchDarkly.
- Familiarity with GraphQL/Apollo.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted software development tools, MCP-based solutions, or similar AI engineering technologies.
- Experience working in a highly regulated or security-focused enterprise environment.
- AWS or other relevant cloud/architecture certifications are a plus.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will be a hands-on technical leader who is equally comfortable designing architecture, writing production code, mentoring engineers, and communicating with stakeholders. You should be able to establish a clear technical vision while remaining pragmatic about delivery timelines, technical debt, and business priorities.
You will bring a strong sense of ownership, sound technical judgment, and the ability to balance quality, security, scalability, and speed while helping the engineering team continuously improve.
