Client is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to help drive large-scale modernization initiatives across critical banking technology platforms. You'll work with architects and engineering teams to transform complex technical strategies into secure, scalable, production-ready solutions that deliver business value at scale.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You'll help teams navigate complexity, guide implementation decisions, solve challenging technical problems, and contribute directly when needed. Success comes from technical credibility, strong collaboration, and a passion for helping teams succeed.
You'll review designs, mentor engineers, troubleshoot critical issues, build proof-of-concepts, and help delivery teams move from ideas to outcomes. If you're the person people call when something is complicated, unclear, broken, or stuck, you'll fit right in.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with architects and engineering teams to translate solution designs into practical implementation strategies.
Guide teams through technical decisions, implementation challenges, and modernization efforts.
Design, develop, and support scalable, secure, and resilient applications, services, and APIs.
Review designs, code, and implementation plans to promote quality, reliability, maintainability, and security.
Collaborate across engineering, product, architecture, and platform teams to deliver technical solutions.
Identify and mitigate technical risks, dependencies, and implementation gaps before they affect delivery.
Provide hands-on technical leadership through proof-of-concepts, code reviews, troubleshooting, and implementation support.
Support modernization involving cloud-native platforms, APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and enterprise integrations.
Promote engineering excellence through testing, automation, observability, resiliency, and operational practices.
Mentor engineers and contribute reusable patterns and guidance that improve delivery across teams.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of software engineering experience building and supporting enterprise applications.
5 years of experience with Java and Spring Boot.
Experience delivering complex technical solutions across multiple teams or systems.
Experience partnering with architects and technical leaders on large-scale initiatives.
Strong design, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and modern backend development.
Experience with APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
Experience with Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, cloud-hosted applications, and containerized deployments.
Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and engineering automation.
Knowledge of observability, monitoring, resiliency, security, and operational excellence.
Familiarity with OpenAPI, Swagger, and API-first development.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to influence technical direction without formal management authority.
