Lead Software Engineer - Backend

Location: San Ramon, California (Onsite)

Role Overview

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be responsible for driving initiatives as a technical owner, focusing on the alignment, architecture, and execution within the Ecommerce Technology space. This senior role involves taking ownership of the work done by team members. All software engineers are expected to contribute code and participate in architecture and design.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide advisory to the Ecommerce Technology leadership team on the technical direction for initiatives.
• Take responsibility for repositories, codebase, CI/CD pipelines, and governance to ensure high-quality, performant code is committed and deployed to production.
• Develop performant features that incorporate an evolutionary design and iterative development to balance quality and speed of delivery.
• Drive solutioning and design in collaboration with architects, product managers, business stakeholders, security, infrastructure, and external partners.
• Perform code reviews and mentor senior and software engineers to elevate talent.
• Conduct deep dives into technical challenges related to scale, resiliency, and operational efficiency.
• Minimize production outages and high-severity issues through proactive collaboration and monitoring.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of web development experience, including building, leading, and architecting digital products and services, as well as high-volume, scalable, and distributed systems.
• Proficiency with event-driven architecture and experience scaling high-volume, low-latency services with caching, CDNs, edge computing, and serverless architectures.
• Strong ecommerce development experience using Node.js, Typescript, GraphQL, Python, Distributed Cache, and DynamoDB.
• A good understanding of front-end technologies and their interaction with backend systems, including ReactJS/Redux, HTML5, CSS3, and Web Pixels.
• DevOps expertise with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, logging, telemetry, monitoring, alerting, and a proven track record of troubleshooting production issues.
• Ability to break down complex items into small, simpler building blocks to ensure continuous delivery.
• Attention to detail, a desire to learn, and a collaborative approach to challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ecommerce platforms such as BigCommerce, Commerce tools, or Shopify.
• Integration experience incorporating third-party products and vendors.
• Experience with major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Awareness of cross-browser compatibility issues and client-side versus server-side performance considerations.
