Step into a day at the forefront of fabrication quality
You begin your morning on the shop floor of a structural steel fabricator. With drawings and specifications in hand, you walk a beam line, verify material traceability back to MTRs, and check WPS parameters at the welding stations. By afternoon, you are at a galvanizer reviewing coating records and confirming conformance to applicable codes. You close the day by debriefing with the supplier and customer, capturing clear findings, photos, and recommended corrective actions for a defensible report.
What you will do
- Lead on-site quality audits and inspections across fabricators, manufacturers, suppliers, customer facilities, and project locations.
- Assess fabrication processes, workmanship, inspection practices, material traceability, documentation, and the overall effectiveness of quality systems.
- Examine quality documentation: inspection and calibration records, nonconformance reports, corrective actions, material test reports (MTRs), welding procedures (WPSs), welder qualifications, coating/galvanizing records, and production documentation.
- Evaluate structural steel, utility structures, poles, lattice components, weldments, assembled products, coatings, galvanizing, and related fabricated items.
- Perform visual examinations and arrange or support NDT, dimensional checks, coating assessments, and other specialized inspections as needed.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, procedures, codes, and customer requirements to determine conformance.
- Identify deficiencies, nonconforming conditions, documentation gaps, and opportunities for corrective action and process improvement.
- Produce clear, detailed, and defensible audit/inspection reports with supporting documentation and photographs.
- Communicate risks, findings, and recommendations professionally to customers, fabricators, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in audit kickoff meetings, closeout reviews, and corrective-action discussions.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to inspectors and field personnel when needed.
- Uphold company, customer, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements without compromise.
- Travel extensively to customer, supplier, manufacturing, and project sites.

- Working knowledge of AWS, ASTM, ASME, AISC, ISO 9001, and OSHA.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, inspection procedures, and technical documentation.
- Exceptional written communication skills to produce clear, defensible reports.
