    Schwab Technology Services powers the technology solutions that help clients confidently manage their financial futures. Within Thematic Investing, you''ll join a team responsible for one of Schwab''s most innovative client experiences, providing investors access to curated investment themes backed by Schwab research. As a Java Developer on the Thematic Core Services team, you will play a key role in designing and delivering scalable, high-performing applications and services that support business growth and exceptional client experiences.

    This role requires strong technical expertise, sound decision-making, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges. You''ll collaborate closely with architects, product teams, business partners, and fellow engineers to design, develop, test, and enhance modern microservices and API-driven solutions. Success in this role requires balancing technical excellence with collaboration, mentoring team members, optimizing application performance, and continuously improving development practices. Your contributions will directly influence the reliability, scalability, and evolution of Schwab''s Thematic Investing platform.

    What you have

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor''s or Master''s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
    • 8+ years of professional experience in Java software development
    • Strong experience with Java, Spring Framework, Hibernate, and RESTful web services
    • 8+ years of experience designing, developing, testing, and deploying enterprise applications
    • Extensive experience designing and building APIs
    • Extensive experience developing and supporting microservices architectures
    • Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
    • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns
    • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
    • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
    • Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and mentor less experienced developers

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with trading platforms and/or high-volume, high-availability systems
    • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
    • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or related containerization and orchestration technologies
    • Experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
    • Experience contributing to software architecture and technical design decisions
    • Experience optimizing applications for performance, scalability, and reliability
    • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience

    In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
