    Agency-Internal Killeen Independent School District Job Description Job Title: Lead Grounds Pesticide Applicator Exemption Status/Test: Non-Exempt Reports to: Foreman Date Revised: May 28, 2025 Dept./School: Facilities Services Pay Grade: MT3 / 256 Primary Purpose: Responsible for planning, coordinating, and safely executing the application of pesticides and herbicides across all district properties. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in horticulture, pest management, or environmental safety preferred. Special Knowledge/Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Major Responsibilities and Duties: Plans and performs pesticide and herbicide applications based on site needs, pest trends, and seasonal conditions. Uses sound reasoning and judgment to determine the safest and most effective pest control methods. Accurately calculates mix ratios, treatment areas, and application rates. Maintains detailed and compliant records of pesticide use, chemical inventory, and application schedules. Reads and interprets pesticide labels, SDSs, and regulatory guidance documents. Provides clear, written and verbal communication to supervisors, staff, and contractors regarding pest control. Schedules treatments to minimize exposure risks to students and staff and ensures timely notification as required by law. Ensures proper storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.

    Killeen ISD . Agency-Internal Operates motor vehicles and engine powered equipment. Transports grounds equipment to worksites as required. Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletics Grounds Foreman or Grounds Care Specialist. Occasionally, requires support of general grounds care when needed. Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 1 to 4 employees in the Facilities Services. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training and counseling employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. Language Skills: Reads and interprets pesticide labels, safety documents, and manuals. Writes detailed logs, reports, and safety documentation. Communicates effectively with diverse staff and school administrators. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Unit conversions (e.g., gallons, ounces, square feet, acres). Calculates dilution rates and coverage areas. Reasoning Ability: Identifies pest-related problems and selecting appropriate solutions. Makes decisions based on safety, environmental impact, and regulatory guidelines. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess a current Texas driver's license. Valid Texas pesticide applicator license in applicable categories preferred. Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for extended periods of time. Must be able to regularly lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to operate and transport equipment and tools. Requires visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to measure and mix chemicals accurately. Ability to work in outdoor environments for long durations in varying weather conditions. May require wearing protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, goggles, and coveralls. Killeen ISD . Agency-Internal Environment: Work is performed in outdoor settings, such as school grounds, athletic fields, and landscaped areas, and playgrounds. Exposure to pesticides, fertilizers, dust, allergens, and loud equipment noise. May involve working near students, staff, and members of the public; discretion and safety awareness are essential. Compliance with all school district, local, and federal safety standards is mandatory.
