Job Title: Lead Driver (Florida PACE Centers)

Job Summary

The Lead Driver serves as the on-site leader for transportation operations at Florida PACE Centers. This role bridges communication between drivers and transportation coordinators, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. The Lead Driver is responsible for resolving immediate issues, supporting drivers, and maintaining compliance with safety and service standards. This position requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation for PACE participants.

Essential Job Functions

Leadership & Supervision

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for drivers, providing guidance and support.
  • Trains and mentors new drivers on company policies, safety procedures, and customer service standards under Transportation Management guidance.
  • Monitors driver performance and provides feedback to improve efficiency and compliance.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Assists Transportation Coordinator in planning and adjusting routes to ensure timely patient pickups and drop-offs.
  • Coordinates with dispatchers to resolve scheduling conflicts and optimize routes for efficiency.
  • Serves as back up for when coordinator is out of the office. Needs to be proficient using Transportation Software.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforces adherence to traffic laws, DOT regulations, and company safety protocols.
  • Conducts random audits and ride-alongs to ensure safe driving practices and participant satisfaction.
  • Conducts weekly safety hurdles on drivers' safety, customer service and emergency protocols.
  • Reports and documents accidents, incidents, and mechanical issues promptly to Management.

Vehicle Maintenance Oversight

  • Ensures vehicles are inspected regularly and maintained in safe operating condition.
  • Schedules repairs or servicing as needed.

Customer Service

  • Handles escalated passenger concerns or complaints professionally.
  • Promotes a positive experience for patients by ensuring drivers provide compassionate assistance.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintains accurate logs, mileage reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepares performance reports and communicate updates to management.

Emergency & Problem-Solving

  • Responds to unexpected issues such as vehicle breakdowns or route disruptions.
  • Implements contingency plans to minimize service interruptions.

Covering Drivers Routes

  • Provides coverage for driver routes as needed to support operational requirements

Job Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years driving passenger vehicles (bus or van) with wheelchair accessibility.
  • 2 years of experience transporting elderly or disabled individuals.
  • Leadership experience in transportation or logistics preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License
  • Clean driving record

Abilities Required

  • Leadership experience in transportation or logistics preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of local routes and traffic regulations.
  • Ability to lift and assist participants; pass physical capability test.

Functional Demands

Environment Work Conditions:

  • Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation
  • Toxic or caustic chemicals; bio-hazardous waste; flammable, explosive gas

Infectious Material Exposure:

  • Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues

This position involves operating a company vehicle or driving as part of job duties.
