Join our team at Western Towboat, a leader in the marine industry with over 75 years of
experience. We are a family-owned company that builds, operates, and maintains tugboats. We
have a fleet of twenty-two tugs specifically designed for our unique work, primarily in Alaska
and Puget Sound.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Marine Diesel Mechanic to support our fleet of
approximately twenty vessels. The ideal candidate has extensive Caterpillar engine experience,
preferably with dealership-level training, and is highly skilled with CAT 3500, C-175, and 3300
series engines.
Qualifications:
- Significant technical knowledge of engine repair, maintenance, preservation, and project
management.
- Current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Ability to lift 50lbs without assistance, stand for long periods of time, climb ladders, walk
in various environments.
- Report to work in-person.
- Extensive experience building and maintaining Caterpillar engines.
- Knowledge of CAT 3500, C-175, and 3300 series engines.
- Able to lead a team running multiple complex projects at the same time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform complete overhauls, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules and manage a small team of mechanics.
- Effectively multitask in a busy fleet environment.
- Support and uphold WTB's vision and values.
- Respond to emergency repairs outside regular hours, including weekends, as required.
- Occasionally travel to vessels and shipyards for duties, training, and professional
development, including overnight stays when necessary.
- Utilize WTB's vessel management software, Mobile Ops, for maintenance tracking,
planning, scheduling, and recording. Assess work requests, direct repairs, and address
deficiencies.
- Attend weekly Operations Meetings, Post Op Meetings, yard safety meetings and annual
Management Review.
- Adhere to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
