Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Center Technician to oversee and actively participate in structured cabling, telecommunications, and data center infrastructure installations for large-scale new construction and colocation data center projects. This position serves as the onsite leader for a crew of 4 to 8 technicians, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications, quality standards, and installation requirements. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership abilities, extensive telecommunications and fiber infrastructure experience, and the ability to interpret project documentation while maintaining production, quality, and safety standards in a fast-paced construction environment. Candidates must be willing to travel extensively for project assignments.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a crew of 4 to 8 technicians on structured cabling and telecommunications installation projects.
Assign daily work activities and provide direction to technicians based on project requirements.
Conduct daily safety meetings, stretch and flex activities, and pre-task planning discussions.
Monitor crew productivity, attendance, and timekeeping accuracy.
Perform daily jobsite inspections to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and production standards.
Stop and correct unsafe work practices or installation deficiencies when identified.
Conduct end-of-day production reviews, safety discussions, and planning sessions.
Maintain awareness of onsite materials and ensure resources are available to support daily production goals.
Install cable infrastructure and perform fiber rough-in activities.
Install, dress, label, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
Perform ribbon splicing, fusion splicing, fiber termination, and connector installation.
Install and configure single-mode and multi-mode fiber systems.
Conduct Fluke testing, OTDR testing, continuity testing, and troubleshooting of fiber and copper infrastructure.
Install fiber trays, ladder racks, cabinets, cable management systems, and related infrastructure components.
Rack, stack, and install server racks, network equipment, and customer hardware.
Perform outside plant (OSP) fiber installations and pathway routing into data center environments.
Receive materials, verify inventory, and assemble installation hardware.
Interpret blueprints, specifications, drawings, and project documentation.
Coordinate with project leadership regarding production goals, material requirements, labor forecasting, and project updates.
Manage relationships with project stakeholders, contractors, and onsite personnel.
Submit field changes, project updates, and documentation as required.
Maintain compliance with all safety regulations, PPE requirements, and industry standards.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in telecommunications, structured cabling, data center infrastructure, or a related technical field.
Minimum one (1) year of supervisory or team leadership experience.
Experience leading crews of 4 to 8 technicians in construction, telecommunications, or data center environments.
Strong knowledge of Cat6, copper cabling systems, and structured cabling infrastructure.
Experience with fiber optic installation, termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, drawings, and project documentation.
Knowledge of telecommunications industry color coding standards.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate with project leadership, team members, customers, and contractors.
Must be willing and able to travel extensively for project assignments.
Must meet driving requirements and maintain an acceptable driving record.
OSHA 10 certification preferred.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds as needed.
Ability to work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in active construction environments.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical work throughout extended shifts.
Must possess and be proficient with telecommunications installation tools and testing equipment.
Work Experience
Experience supporting large-scale new construction projects.
Experience working within colocation data centers and new construction data center environments.
Experience with structured cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, fiber optic systems, and data center deployments.
Experience leading installation teams in commercial construction environments preferred.

Fully onsite position.
Must be open to travel and work at project locations throughout the assignment duration.
Employees typically return home for long weekends every 2 to 4 weeks.
Standard schedule is Monday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
Work hours may increase based on project demands and construction schedules.
Project environments include large-scale new construction sites, colocation data centers, new construction data centers, and jobsite trailer environments.
Required tools include screwdriver (Phillips and standard), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips with belt sheath, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tools, crimp tools, butt set, volt-ohmmeter, continuity tester, and related telecommunications installation tools.
Required personal protective equipment includes work boots, gloves, and any additional site-required PPE.
