About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an experienced Lead Capital Markets Accountant to serve as a technical accounting authority within the Investment Banking and Capital Markets Controller team. This role will be dynamic across broad CIB activities, including advisory, underwriting, secondary trading, structured products, equities, loans, and other broker-dealer activities.

In addition, this position will help support the accounting and regulatory oversight for Wells Fargo Securities, LLC and other broker-dealer consolidated subsidiaries.

As the organization continues to expand with complex product activity and strategic initiatives, this role will be instrumental in shaping accounting conclusions, policy interpretations, and regulatory outcomes. This individual contributor role is designed for an experienced professional seeking deep technical ownership, complex transaction exposure, and sustained influence within a large capital markets platform.

In this role you will:

  • Serve as a senior technical accounting resource for Investment Banking and Equity Capital Markets activities, providing authoritative guidance on complex or novel accounting matters.

  • Develop, document, and defend accounting conclusions related to major transactions, new product initiatives, regulatory interpretations, and policy changes under U.S. GAAP, SEC, and broker-dealer frameworks.

  • Provide technical oversight and challenge for broker-dealer regulatory reporting, including customer reserve and other compliance reports, ensuring conclusions withstand audit and regulatory scrutiny.

  • Act as a key accounting partner to Investment Banking, Trading, Product, Legal, and Risk teams during structuring, execution, and post-trade analysis of complex activities.

  • Lead accounting assessment and review of judgmental financial statement and regulatory disclosures to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with applicable guidance.

  • Perform targeted analytical review of significant ledger movements and externally disclosed balances, focusing on root cause analysis and accounting integrity.

  • Support the financial close process through high-impact recalculations and validations related to complex financial attributes and ledger recognition.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external audit inquiries related to various capital markets and broker-dealer accounting matters.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Finance, Accounting, Analytics, Financial Reporting, Accounting Reporting or Risk Reporting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in capital markets accounting, broker-dealer finance, US-GAAP technical accounting, or audit/advisory

  • Demonstrated experience forming and supporting accounting conclusions in complex, judgmental areas under U.S. GAAP, SEC, and FINRA frameworks.

  • Direct exposure to investment banking, trading, or broker-dealer activities within a large financial institution or equivalent environment.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

  • FINRA Series 99 and/or Series 27 (or prior exposure to BD regulatory environments).

  • Experience with broker-dealer regulatory reporting, including customer reserve or net capitalrelated matters.

  • Generative and / or Agented AI experience (including general tools like MS CoPilot, Tachyon, etc.)

  • Strong analytical and automation skills (Excel, Alteryx, Axiom, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools).

This position requires an onsite presence in a hybrid arrangement in Charlotte, NC. Relocation is not available for this position.
