    The Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy plays a vital role in strengthening statewide public safety by providing high quality instruction, maintaining rigorous training standards, and supporting the advancement of Tennessee's law enforcement profession.

    You would play a critical role in strengthening the effectiveness, professionalism, and modernization of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy. By partnering closely with the Academy Director, the Assistant Director would influence the direction of law enforcement training statewide and help ensure that officers across Tennessee receive high quality, up to date instruction aligned with POST standards.

    Job Overview:

    The Assistant Director of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy supports the Academy Director in guiding the academy¿s strategic direction and ensuring training programs meet POST standards. The role assists with daily operations, supervises training staff, and manages curriculum development and improvement. It also assists with academy procedures, recordkeeping, budgeting, grants, and maintains professional relationships with stakeholder agencies across the state. This is a hands-on role that will require you to frequently be on campus and travel occasionally

    Key Responsibilities:

    The Assistant Director partners with the Academy Director to set the strategic direction and modernize law enforcement training. The Assistant Director supervises subordinate training staff and assists in overseeing the academy's day-to-day operations, functions, activities, and services, ensuring the smooth delivery of training and compliance with academy policies. This role manages the creation, evaluation, and ongoing updating of curriculum, including overseeing instructor performance and directing the development of new course content for specialized subjects. It assists in developing, implementing, and enforcing academy procedures, as well as directing the maintenance and preparation of operating records and reports. The Assistant Director supports the Director in creating and maintaining the academy budget, grants, and required reporting. Additionally, the role assists in developing and maintaining professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and stakeholder organizations, helping to represent the academy effectively in all professional contexts.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of full-time law enforcement work, including at least two years of law enforcement administrative or supervisory work.
