Law Clerk II (EOUSA SDCA)
The Law Clerk II supports the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys (EOUSA) and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California (SDCA) under the Mega 5 program. This position works with assigned Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and supervisory attorneys to determine applicable administrative, statutory, and regulatory law, identify potential defenses or violations, and handle complex legal research and documentation. This role is located onsite in San Diego, California.

Develop an understanding of all applicable federal, state, or local laws and keep abreast of any new criminal and civil rules and procedures.
Alert AUSAs to all potential issues while conducting reviews and analyzing and interpreting data within case files.
Oversee practice regarding 28 Medical - Healthcare Institution Section 2255 (habeas corpus) and immigration habeas matters, including receiving, docketing, calendaring due dates, coordinating file retrieval, preparing draft responses, and ensuring timely filing.
Analyze statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, agency rules and regulations, and law review articles for assigned cases, including those of an especially complex or unprecedented nature.
Support AUSAs by briefing attorneys on pertinent facts, issues, and case law.
Draft correspondence and legal documents for attorney signature.
Draft proposed orders for the signature of judges and magistrates.
Law degree, current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least two years of completed study, an equivalent level of legal training or experience, or an equivalent level of substituted education.
At least two years of progressively more responsible experience on litigation support projects or task order-related projects, with proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully interact with clients and attorneys.
Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
Hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.
Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.

Working Hours: 8 hours a day, between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM local time (normal business hours generally 8:30 AM 5:00 PM EST with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch) based on client business needs.
Overtime: Permitted only with prior approval of the DOJ COR, Leidos Management, and in accordance with subcontractor procedures.
Period of Performance: Estimated start date of September 30, 2026, through May 31, 2027 (with options to extend).
