    Montana Correctional Enterprises (MCE) lies at the heart of the Montana Department of Corrections' Programs and Rehabilitations Division. Employees work closely with inmate workers, teaching job skills along with the work ethic for which Big Sky Country is known. Whether it's by herding cattle, working under the hood of a vehicle, crafting custom log furniture, or welding, the men and women involved in MCE programs while incarcerated leave prison knowing their future is as bright as they choose to make it.

    The Laundry Officer is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Association of Linen Management (ALM) commercial laundry training program within Montana Correctional Enterprises at Montana State Prison. This position delivers structured, industry recognized training to the inmate workforce and oversees all aspects of laundry production in a high security environment. The incumbent ensures compliance with safety, security, and sanitation requirements while directing and coordinating inmate work activities, monitoring equipment and production standards, and maintaining accurate records and inventories. The role plays a key part in preparing inmates for employment opportunities in the commercial laundry field through hands on instruction, coaching, and skill development.

    The Laundry Officerr also manages workflow, production schedules, and operational priorities to meet program and customer needs. Additional responsibilities include providing customer service to internal clients, interpreting job orders and facility procedures, conducting equipment and safety training, and performing personnel functions related to inmate worker placement, performance, and discipline. This position requires strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills, along with the ability to maintain a safe, productive, and rehabilitative work environment. This role offers the opportunity to support meaningful vocational training while ensuring efficient and high quality laundry operations within the institution.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • 1 year of experience directing the work of others
    • The completion of directly related vocational education can be given in lieu of experience and have a thorough working knowledge of the theory of commercial laundry operation, equipment, and management.
    • Working knowledge and operation of current laundry equipment.
    • Endorsements, certifications, and training in commercial laundry operation will be given preference.
    • Other applicable training and/or certification in an applicable area would be considered.

    Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
