CTL Student Learning Assistance is a program available to UNM students enrolled in undergraduate classes. Our mission is to enrich the academic climate at UNM and create lifelong learners.
Language tutors provide support to UNM students who are learning languages. Language tutors are either native language users or advanced language learners of the target language who can help students understand language material, improve their language production skills (speaking, signing, writing) and language reception skills (listening, reading, comprehending), and overcome problems in language learning. As a member of the CTL team, student staff attend weekly or biweekly training focused on language content and tutoring practices, which are designed to make student staff effective facilitators of student learning.
Language tutors:
Facilitate student learning by helping students understand their learning process and modeling metacognitive strategies in language acquisition
Provide language support through one-on-one consultations with student learners (including in-person, online, and asynchronous/e-mail support)
Provide language support by planning and conducting conversation group sessions for small-group language learning and practice
Serve as a liaison between language departments and CTL language services
Actively participate in the CTL training program and professional development opportunities
Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment
Perform administrative responsibilities per CTL and UNM guidelines
Applicants will be asked to submit a recommendation from a professor or instructor who can speak to their strengths within the language they are applying for.
We are currently seeking applicants who can support the following languages:
Russian
French
Chinese
German
