About the Role

Melinda Webb School is seeking a warm, organized, and flexible Language Teacher to support young children who are deaf or hard of hearing, ages 18 months to 6 years, in a listening and spoken language classroom. This role includes planning and implementing lessons that meet the developmental needs of toddler and preschool children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Professional Responsibilities

· Plan and adapt daily lessons, classroom activities, and instructional routines to meet individual student needs and support growth in listening, spoken language, vocabulary, social communication, confidence, independence, and early academic skills.

· Create and maintain a classroom environment that encourages communication, independence, curiosity, play, and positive relationships with peers and adults.

· Collect formal and informal student data, complete required assessments, write individualized goals, and use assessment information to plan meaningful instruction and prepare progress reports.

· Provide active supervision during classroom instruction, transitions, lunch, recess, field trips, and school activities.

· Support classroom routines, safety procedures, daily amplification checks, toileting or personal care needs, and minor first aid or medication procedures when needed.

· Communicate with families about student progress, classroom activities, behavior, illness, emergencies, and other school-related concerns in a timely and professional way.

· Collaborate with the Teaching Assistant and school team to support classroom routines, lesson preparation, daily care needs, student progress, and consistent carryover of listening and spoken language strategies.

· Participate in teacher meetings, staff meetings, professional development, school events, and other meetings or functions as needed.

· Pursue Listening and Spoken Language Specialist certification, participate in required mentoring, and complete ongoing professional development to strengthen knowledge and practice in listening and spoken language education.

· Complete 30 hours of continuing education each year to meet childcare licensing requirements and support Texas Rising Star certification.

Physical Requirements

This position requires active supervision of young children, including standing, walking, sitting on the floor or in child-sized furniture, bending, reaching, and lifting classroom materials. The role may also include lifting or carrying a child when needed, outdoor supervision in various weather conditions, and responding safely to child behavior or medical needs.

Qualifications

· Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Speech-Language Pathology, Early Childhood Education, or a related field preferred

· Practicum, student teaching, or classroom experience with young children

· Understanding of child development, listening and spoken language development, speech-language development, and audiology

· Commitment to the mission of Melinda Webb School and the children and families we serve

Hours Worked: Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 1:00 pm

Starting Salary: Determined by experience

FLSA Status: Exempt

Days worked: 186/year
