Language Based Special Education Teacher
A Language-Based Teacher with certification in Specialized Reading provides targeted instruction to students who experience challenges in reading, writing, language processing, and literacy development. The teacher designs and delivers evidence-based, multisensory reading interventions while supporting students' academic growth and fostering confidence in language skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction in reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, and language arts.
- Assess students' literacy skills and develop personalized learning plans based on identified needs.
- Implement research-based reading programs and multisensory instructional strategies.
- Monitor student progress through ongoing assessments and maintain accurate records.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, administrators, and families to support student success.
- Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to meet diverse learning needs.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute to goal development when applicable.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and instructional recommendations.
- Stay current with best practices in literacy instruction and specialized reading interventions through professional development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education
- Master's Degree Preferred
- Certification in Specialized Reading, Reading Specialist, Dyslexia Intervention, or a related literacy specialization.
- Knowledge of structured literacy and evidence-based reading instruction methodologies.
- Experience working with students who have reading disabilities, dyslexia, language-based learning differences, or literacy challenges preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
Experience
- Experience with multisensory reading programs such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or similar methodologies.
- Ability to analyze assessment data and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and literacy support tools.
Salary is in accordance with the Medford Teachers Association contract:
