JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general direction, performs a broad range of landscaping, small engine repair, and maintenance of grounds. Maintain an attractive, clean and natural environment in which to learn, and ensure that full educational use of all school grounds facilities are available at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Care for established lawns by mulching, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, trimming and edging around flower beds, walks and walls
  • Use Garden Edgers such as mow and edge lawns, using power mowers, and other small power tools
  • Gather and remove litter, rake, mulch and compost leaves
  • Prune and trim trees, shrubs and hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws
  • Trim and pick flowers, clean flower beds
  • Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters and other ground features.
  • Operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, twin axle-vehicles, chain saws, electric clippers and pruning saws
  • Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws hedge and brush trimmers, and axes
  • Maintain and perform minor repairs on powered and mechanical ground keeping equipment and tools as skills and experience permit
  • Policing grounds areas of trash, litter, and debris before cutting
  • May be called upon to assist with the work of other maintenance personnel during emergency situations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma (or its equivalent/GED) or a collegiate transcript that demonstrates earned credit(s) or graduation
  • A minimum of two (2) years of direct or related experience in landscaping, horticulture, farming, and/or small engine repair preferred
