Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that Indiana University (IU) campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable while supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. A unit within Capital Projects , Construction Management provides project management services for IU capital projects. Construction Management staff coordinate the efforts of everyone involved on IU Capital projects - external contractors, IU Capital Projects staff, and our university partners - ensuring projects are completed on schedule, on budget, and in accordance with university guidelines and safety standards.

Job Summary

The Landscape Architecture Leader provides strategic leadership for landscape architecture services supporting Indiana Universitys capital planning, campus development, and construction programs. This position is particularly critical given its responsibility for providing landscape architecture leadership and direction for the Bloomington campus, which is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful college campuses in the nation. Maintaining and enhancing the character, functionality, and aesthetic quality of the campus environment requires dedicated professional leadership to ensure capital investments align with the universitys long-term vision and preserve one of Indiana Universitys most valued assets.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Serves as the universitys subject matter expert for landscape architecture, establishing campus design standards, guiding complex capital projects, managing consultant relationships, and ensuring the long-term stewardship of university landscapes.
• Provides university-wide influence, leads business-critical initiatives, and advises leadership on landscape planning, sustainability, accessibility, and campus development strategies.

General Responsibilities

• Contributes on senior leadership teams to formulate strategic planning and the highest-level operational objectives for landscape architecture areas.
• Establishes long-term business plans and long-term strategic objectives.
• Directs leadership staff who provide supervision to landscape architecture teams.
• Responsible for escalated operational issues, including human resources and/or people management situations.
• Drives innovation and excellence within the area of landscape architecture; reviews and creates policies and procedures.
• Determines overall budget for landscape architecture teams; reviews and approves financial proposals from direct reporting leaders; has significant fiscal responsibilities that require frequent interaction with executive leaders.
• Provides expertise and identifies grant and/or funding opportunities; develops business relationships across the university and externally.
• Stays up-to-date on new landscape architecture standards, procedures, tools and safety requirements and works collaboratively with other landscape architecture leaders across departments and/or campuses in determining standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures; ensures the adoption and implementation by direct reporting leaders.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelors degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or related field.

Preferred

• Masters degree in landscape architecture.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 5 years in landscape architecture, construction project management, institutional works, public works, parks and recreation, planning, or related field.
• 3 years of management experience in relevant field.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

• Registered Landscape Architect within the state of Indiana upon date of hire.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position ones self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This positions requires the occasional travel to work from the Indianapolis, Indiana campus.

Advertised Salary

This position is approved with a salary range of $118,000 - $125,000.00.
