Job DetailsThe attorney will work directly with property owners, landlords, property managers, and other real estate clients on a combination of unlawful detainer litigation and broader landlord-tenant disputes.
Responsibilities
- Handle unlawful detainer matters from inception through resolution, including notices, pleadings, discovery, motions, settlement negotiations, and trial
- Represent clients in court appearances, hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials
- Advise clients regarding California landlord-tenant laws, lease enforcement, tenant disputes, and property-related legal issues
- Draft and review notices to tenants, lease-related correspondence, settlement agreements, and other landlord-tenant documents
- Handle disputes involving nonpayment of rent, lease violations, holdover tenants, nuisance claims, unauthorized occupants, and other tenancy issues
- Conduct legal research and prepare motions, briefs, pleadings, and other litigation documents
- Develop litigation strategies based on the facts, applicable law, and client objectives
- Communicate directly with clients regarding case strategy, risk, timelines, and potential outcomes
- Manage an independent caseload while meeting court deadlines and maintaining strong attention to detail
- Work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff on complex or high-volume matters
- Stay current on changes to California landlord-tenant law, eviction procedures, rent regulations, and related local ordinances
Requirements
- Active and in-good-standing membership with the California Bar
- Minimum of 4 years of attorney experience
- Experience handling landlord-tenant matters, unlawful detainer litigation, or closely related real estate litigation
- Strong litigation experience, including drafting pleadings and motions, conducting discovery, and appearing in court
- Ability to independently manage cases from intake through resolution
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
- Excellent client communication and case management abilities
- Working knowledge of California landlord-tenant statutes and unlawful detainer procedures
- Trial experience strongly preferred
- Experience representing landlords, property owners, property management companies, or other real estate clients preferred
